The United States recently charged Albert Gonzalez, 28, with credit card fraud. In fact this is the largest fraud committed regarding credit card fraud in America. Gonzalez worked with two Russian hackers at a 7 Eleven chain.
The trouble with the fraud is that they not only got United States card numbers, they also got many other nations. Anyone who came into the shop and used a credit card may have had their card stolen. Gonzalez is faced with twenty years of jail for fraud and five for conspiracy, but other factors could reduce the amount of time served.
Gonzalez does have to pay a fine of $250,000. While the fraud did not occur in the UK some could be affected by this. The best thing to do about fraud is to make sure you check your credit card statements. Fraud happens in many places. It’s not just an American issue. By checking credit card statements, knowing where your card is, and being cautious you can lessen the affects of fraud. Consumers who are aware of the problem are less likely to be affected by fraud. Staying offline with your cards and no mail order can also help reduce your chances of being a victim.
